Casino closures trigger Atlantic City workers’ exodus

The exodus of workers in Atlantic City remains unabated as New Jersey’s gambling hub sheds more casino jobs.

According to the Press of Atlantic City, the workers’ flight out of Atlantic City will remain a trend especially with the impending closure of the Trump Taj Mahal – the fifth such closing in three years.

Online gambling the fastest growing segment of BCLC’s fiscal year

The online gambling division of the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) was the Crown corporation’s fastest growing segment in its most recent fiscal year.

BCLC enjoyed record profit of C$1.31b (US $994m) in the 12 months ending March 31, 2016, 4.7% more than it earned in fiscal 2014-15. Total revenue also set a new record online gambling  at $3.1b, $197.5m more than the previous year.

PokerStars’ California card room partner fined $2.8m for money laundering lapses

Hawaiian Gardens Casino has become the third California card club to be hit with a seven-figure fine for anti-money laundering (AML) violations.

On Friday, the US Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) announced that it had reached a $2.8m settlement with the Hawaiian Gardens’ owners for violating the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).

All 8 Atlantic City casinos yes, even the Taj Mahal post profit in 2015

Atlantic City casinos dramatically improved their profitability last year following the closure of four AC gaming venues in 2014.

According to figures released on Thursday by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, AC’s eight surviving casino operators saw their revenue rise 2.3% to $3.7b in 2015, while gross operating profit – which doesn’t take into account taxes and some other large expenses – surged a hefty 40.3% to $547.4m.
